Call for Expressions of Interest: Editorial Assistant

2022-11-18

lambda nordica is a peer-reviewed open-access academic journal of LGBTQ and queer studies. The oldest of its kind in the Nordic region, the journal is dedicated to interdisciplinary research in lesbian/gay/bi/trans* and queer studies. Editors-in-chief since 2020 are Erika Alm (Gothenburg University) and Elisabeth Lund Engebretsen (University of Stavanger).

The journal is now looking for an editorial assistant to complement the editorial team, with preferred start date in January-February 2023, for an initial two years. This is a great opportunity for scholars with a keen interest in developing queer and LGBTQI+ scholarly publishing further in Nordic Europe and beyond; the task yields much room for creativity and provides a platform for developing a good overview of the scholarly field and establishing research contacts. A small compensation is rendered annually.

We are looking for someone with:

Good knowledge of gender, feminist, queer and LGBTQI+ scholarship and disciplines in the Nordic region and Europe especially; ideally with postgraduate level academic background in the field

Ability to work independently, plan long-term and work towards deadlines

Ability to work in a team

Above-average interest in working with social media and web platforms

First language knowledge of a Scandinavian language

Excellent knowledge of academic English

Previous editorial experience is a plus but not a requirement

The responsibilities that the position entails are:

Assisting the editors-in-chief in various aspects of the publishing process, including reading submitted articles, proofreading, and having contact with authors, copy editor and layout designer, printers etc.

Assisting in updating and developing the online manuscript system

Updating social media and website as appropriate

Liaise with the editors-in-chief and the Board in planning and developing the journal’s profile

Interested applicants can send a short statement of interest explaining how they fit the profile, along with a 1-page summarized CV to: editors@lambdanordica.org by December 15th.
